We've hit the rainy season here in Tokyo, but a couple of days ago it was gloriously sunny for a change. I decided to visit Meiji Shrine and the surrounding Yoyogi Park where this photo was taken. What you see here are barrels of sake, offered every year to Emperor Meiji and his consort Empress Shoken.Hello world. After crossing the Fewa lake in a local boat and hiking uphill for an hour, we finally arrived at the Pokhara World Peace Pagoda, one of 80 peace pagodas in the world. By midday, the sun was scorching hot, but the views were magnificent. As we watched a monk quietly walk around the stupa, offering his prayers, we felt we had arrived at a haven of calm and tranquility.Hello world. The Sun and Moon Twin Pagodas (41m and 35m) are a famous landmark in Guilin, China. In daylight, it's not as easy to tell which is which, but at night the pagodas are helpfully illuminated in their appropriate colours. Under the water, there is a clear-glass tunnel that connects them.

It took me quite a while to take this shot because as soon as I laid down my tripod, a group of Chinese tourists completely surrounded me and insisted on taking turns posing for photos with me.Hello world. After Guilin, I spent a couple of days in Hong Kong. I had forgotten how futuristic the city is! With skyscapers in all directions, you almost feel like you've stepped into the world of Blade Runner or Total Recall. I was hoping to take quite a few photos, but only managed this one, as I wasn't feeling well and Victoria Peak was covered in clouds.Hello world. Reed Flute Caves seem to be the most overlooked attraction in Guilin, China. Most travellers at my hostel have either not bothered visiting them or did not even know they exist. Yet they're located only 7km outside the city centre, and there is a direct bus there that costs only one yuan.

The caves are over 180 million years old and have inscriptions that can be dated as far back as 792AD. They were discovered in the 1940s by a group of refugees fleeing the Japanese troops. Today, they are lit up in multi-coloured artificial light.Hello world. From 1998 to 2004, the Petronas Twin Towers (451.9m) were the tallest buildings in the world. When I stopped in Kuala Lumpur on my way from Nepal to China, they were of course high on my list of things to see, but to be honest the heat and humidity in KL were just too much for me. I only managed to take a couple of quick photos before I had to run back to the air conditioned comfort of the Suria KLCC shopping mall.Hello world. The ancient stupa at Boudhanath, Kathmandu, is one of the largest in the world. It's the holiest Tibetan Buddhist temple outside Tibet, and even though I am not religious, this place felt very special, with many people walking around the stupa while repeating the mantra "om mani padme hum".
What could be more Nepali than a Swayambhunath monkey in front of prayer flags? This little creature was extra cute, as he (she?) seemed so young and unsure of himself.
Pokhara is one of the most beautiful places I have visited in Nepal, thanks to its location between Phewa Lake and the Annapurna range. Every night, as evening falls and the sun drops behind the mountains, many local fishermen take to the lake.Hello world. Kathmandu Durbar Square is a Unesco World Heritage site that holds several palaces, court yards, and temples. This little temple seemed to attract a lot of pigeons that were constantly being chased by local children.
I went to see the so called Monkey Temple (a.k.a. Swayambunath) in Kathmandu today. I was slightly worried about the monkeys, as I've heard they can be pretty aggressive, but they were fine. This guy looks like he's used to posing for tourists!Hello world.
